Optimizing medical emergency service routing – a case study focusing on supraregional patient transportation in Bavaria/Germany

Die Globalisierung und die Klimakrise sind große Herausforderungen, die eine Optimierung unseres Handelns erfordern. Aktuelle Veröffentlichungen weisen darauf hin, dass in Deutschland ein Forschungsbedarf hinsichtlich der Optimierung des Krankentransportroutings besteht. Die Verfügbarkeit entsprechender Daten erlaubt eine Fokussierung auf überregionale Krankentransporte, z.B. im bayerischen Raum. Zur Untersuchung der Thematik wird ein anwendungsorientierter Multimethodenansatz gewählt, der auch den Einsatz von GIS einschließt. Die Aufbereitung und Analyse der Daten ergibt ein Optimierungspotenzial von 27,3 % im Bereich der Leerrückfahrten. Planbare und flexible Ansätze können zu positiven Effekten führen. Der Beitrag zeigt, dass ein überregionales Krankentransportsystem für Bayern sinnvoll wäre. Es würde Kosten, Umweltbelastung und Qualität des Krankentransports optimieren. Weitere Forschung, insbesondere in den Bereichen überregionale Vernetzung und Standardisierung des Krankentransports, wird empfohlen.
Globalization and the climate crisis are current challenges that make it necessary to optimize our actions. Recent publications point out that there is a need for research in Germany regarding the optimization of patient transportation routing. The availability of appropriate data makes it possible to focus on supraregional patient transportation, e. g. in the Bavarian region. To investigate this topic, an application-oriented multi-method approach is chosen, including the use of GIS. The processing and analysis of data result in an optimization potential of 27.3% in the area of empty return journeys. Plannable and flexible approaches can result in positive effects. The paper shows that a supraregional patient transportation system would make sense for Bavaria. It would optimize costs, environmental pollution, and the quality of patient transportation. Further research especially in the areas of supraregional networking and standardization of patient transportations is proposed.
