Wikitude wird von Experten eine große Zukunft voraus gesagt. Was ist darunter überhaupt zu verstehen?
Breuss-Schneeweis:
Der Name Wikitude kommt von „Wiki“ wie Wikipedia und „tude“, von Latitude, Longitude (engl. für Längengrad und Breitengrad). Wikitude war ursprünglich ein standortbezogener Zugang zu Wikipedia-Daten. Im Zuge der Google Android Developer Challenge – wo Wikitude von einer Jury von 1788 Einreichungen unter die Top-50 gewählt wurde – entwickelte sich Wikitude zu einer „Augmented Reality“ Anwendung. Augmented Reality (AR) bedeutet, dass die Wirklichkeit, gesehen durch ein Kamera-Bild eines G1 Google Phones von T-Mobile, mit computergenerierten Daten überlagert wird.

Even though the fanfare around the iPhone has not died down entirely, the next generation of mobile phones to give new momentum to mobile Internet access is waiting in the wings with the G1 smartphone from Google. Experts are predicting a big future for Wikitude. Just what is Wikitude?

The name “Wikitude“ comes from “Wiki“, as in Wikipedia, and “tude“ from latitude and longitude. Wikitude was originally conceived as offering location-based access to Wikipedia data. Over the course of the Google Android Developer Challenge – where a jury picked Wikitude as one of the Top 50 out of a total of 1788 entries,– Wikitude turned into an “augmented reality“ application. “Augmented reality“ (AR) signifies that computer-generated data is superimposed onto the ‚real‘ camera image of a G1 Google phone from T-Mobile.
