Research in landscape architecture is expanding, but many contributions come from related fields rather than trained landscape architects. This paper investigates which disciplines contribute to landscape architecture knowledge and its implications for the profession. Using bibliographic data and scientometric analyses, it traces publication trends since the 1990s, highlighting the field’s growing scientific nature, its coevolution with engineering and the environmental sciences, and its focus on issues such as climate change. The paper encourages landscape architects to assert their expertise and support emerging scholars.
