Digital Transformation at Half Speed: Fit for BIMor Fit for Yesterday?The Gap between Practical BIM Requirements andCurricula in Landscape Architecture Education

The ongoing digitalisation of planning and construction is bringing about lasting changes to work processes, role models, and skill requirements. With the introduction of the step-by-step plan for digital planning and construction, the Building Information Modeling (BIM) method is becoming increasingly important, including in landscape architecture, where professional practice demands “greater focus on digitalization.” The aim of this study was to analyse the extent to which the training of future landscape architects at German universities already prepares them for the requirements of digitisedplanning practice.Based on relevant specialist literature, a keyword catalogue was developed that systematically maps digital and BIM-specific skills. The module handbooks of selected degree programs in the context of landscape architecture were quantitatively evaluated using a Python-based text analysis method.The results show clear differences between universities and areas of competence. While digital basics (e. g., CAD, GIS, 3D modeling) are taught across the board, BIM-specific terms are found in only a few references.
