Small rivers play a crucial role in urban ecological and climate resilience by providing natural drainage, regulating microclimates, and supporting biodiversity. In Ukrainian cities, these rivers are often neglected, leading to degradation, loss of riparian zones, and reduced ecosystem services. In Vinnytsia, climate change has intensified these risks: heatwave events have doubled, and annual precipitation has decreased by 13%, threatening watercourses, vegetation, and urban microclimates. This study developed a GIS-based methodology that involved inventorying rivers, collecting volunteer and official geospatial data, creating a geodatabase, modelling networks, and visualising data in ArcGIS Online. The results document 167.48 km of river network, highlight accessibility and pollution issues, and provide evidence for conservation. The GIS application provides a tool for monitoring, restoring, and integrating small rivers into urban planning, promoting sustainable, nature-based solutions for Vinnytsia. In the future, plans are underway to revitalise and restore small rivers, using nature-based methods while ensuring accessibility for all citizens.
