Ecological Game: A Worlding Analysis

The paper mainly focuses on theorizing the concept of a digital game’s “ecological worlding”, illustrating a narrative that can mediate our relationship with ecology. This paper uses game design as a method of argumentation, emphasizes the often-overlooked roles of nonhuman entities in balancing, contributing to, or disrupting biodiversity, and provoking the urgency of interconnected thinking. By introducing nonhuman species as agents in games, different human and nonhuman roles are defined, allowing real-world human players to change their perspectives, formulating deeper understandings of game narratives as “worlding-with” coexistence relationships.
