The role of digitalisation in the professional world is increasing. This leads to a critical discourse within academic institutions, and the need for teachers to adapt their methods and didactics to changing requirements becomes apparent. The concept of future skills can be helpful here. This case study uses the example of the seminar “Designing Paths and Structures” in a landscape architecture course to examine the integration of digital methods from the collection of as-built data to modelling and the final implementation planning. It shows how simple application scenarios can make the challenges of digitalisation transparent for students, and underlines the importance of future skills in conjunction with adequate media skills. By interweaving the desired skills acquisition with the BIM planning methodology, students are enabled to critically examine digital methods and actively shape the future of their profession.
